Het is vandaag precies 40 jaar geleden dat de eerste mens een voet op de maan heeft gezet.
"a small step...". Ademloos zaten we toen voor de televisie te wachten op de beelden die schokkerig en in zwart wit doorkwamen. Er is veel gebeurd sindsdien. Zoveel dat de kranten nauwelijks tot geen aandacht schenken aan dit feit. Toch vreemd, een gebeurtenis met een dergelijk historisch belang. Wat haalde vandaag de krant wel?
"Jet Bussemaker gekroond tot ere-zuster"; "enkele euro's waterschade aan paleis het Loo"; en natuurlijk de niet meer weg te denken en onvermijdelijk in het nieuws opduikende Jan Smit. Belangrijk.....?
"a big leap for mankind", en we zijn het nu alweer vergeten.

The Helix Nebula, also known as The Helix or NGC 7293, is a large planetary nebula (PN) located in the constellation of Aquarius. Discovered by Karl Ludwig Harding, probably before 1824, this object is one of the closest to the Earth of all the bright planetary nebulae.^[7] The estimated distance is about 215 parsecs or 700 light-years. It is similar in appearance to the Ring Nebula, whose size, age, and physical characteristics are similar to the Dumbbell Nebula, varying only in its relative proximity and the appearance from the equatorial viewing angle.^[2] The Helix has often been referred to as the Eye of God on the Internet, since about 2003.

marathon record

Shizo Kanakuri disappeared while running the marathon in the 1912 Summer Olympics in Stockholm. He was listed as a missing person in Sweden for 50 years — until a journalist found him living placidly in southern Japan.

Overcome with heat during the race, he had stopped at a garden party to drink orange juice, stayed for an hour, then took a train to a hotel and sailed home the next day, too ashamed to tell anyone he was leaving.

There's a happy ending: In 1966 Kanakuri accepted an invitation to return to Stockholm and complete his run. His final time was 54 years, 8 months, 6 days, 8 hours, 32 minutes and 20.3 seconds — surely a record that will never be broken.
